Warning about slimming pills containing undeclared pharmaceuticals

MHRA is advising consumers not to use the following slimming pills as these products have been found by regulators in other countries to contain prescription only drug ingredients that are not declared on the product labels. Prescription drugs should only be taken under the supervision of a healthcare professional.

Lightning 10.0+ Reduces Weight is promoted for weight loss. It comes packaged in white boxes with blister packs of 8 dark green/light green capsules. According to the product packaging, the product is manufactured in China.

The Hong Kong Department of Health found that samples of Lightening 10.0+ were found to contain sibutramine, phenolphthalein, and indomethacin, drug ingredients that were not declared on the product label.

Sibutramine was previously used to treat obesity but has been withdrawn in the EU on safety grounds, due to increased risk of heart attacks and strokes. Any product containing it considered harmful to public health.

STB Summit of the Thin Body S Woman Degreasing Burning Pill comes packaged in white plastic bottles containing gold capsules.

The Hong Kong Department of Health warned consumers not to use STB Summit of the Thin Body S Woman Degreasing Burning Pill after it was found to contain sibutramine, phenolphthalein, and sildenafil, drug ingredients that were not declared on the product label.

LV Shou Reduces Fat comes packaged in white plastic bottles containing white and green capsules.

The Hong Kong Department of Health warned consumers not to use LV Shou Reduces Fat after it was found to contain sibutramine, a drug ingredient that was not declared on the product label.

Sibutramine was previously used to treat obesity but has been withdrawn in the EU on safety grounds, due to increased risk of heart attacks and strokes. Any product containing it considered harmful to public health.

Phenolphthalein is a solution used in chemical experiments and a suspected cancer-causing agent.  In addition to cancer, side effects associated with phenolphthalein include decreased blood pressure, skin rash and gastrointestinal bleeding.

Indomethacin is a prescription only drug in the family known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and is used to treat pain, fever and inflammation. Side effects associated with indomethacin include changes in blood pressure, gastrointestinal disorders (with or without bleeding), anemia, kidney failure and reduced blood clotting ability.

Sildenafil is a prescription only drug used to treat erectile dysfunction which can cause potentially life-threatening high blood pressure. Individuals with heart problems are at increased risk of cardiovascular side-effects such as heart attack, stroke, chest pain and abnormal heart beat. Other side effects include headache, indigestion, dizziness and abnormal vision.
