Research Lauds Curcumin as an effective Non-prescription Pain Alternative

Curcumin, the active ingredient in the spice turmeric, has been examined extensively for its medicinal potential. One of the most valuable finds is that it’s an effective alternative for pain relief arising from inflammation. Consumers can obtain that natural relief for themselves with a curcumin supplement.

“Study results indicate that curcumin is a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant,” said VitaBreeze spokesperson, Michelle O’Sullivan. “It has been shown to be effective for relieving inflammation, swelling and pain and shows promise for addressing a multitude of conditions.”

Inflammation is a primary factor in the body’s pain response and is present in conditions ranging from muscle sprains and arthritis to neurological diseases. Typical treatment for a wide variety of inflammatory conditions is non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), but the medications can have deadly consequences during long-term use.

So far, curcumin has no adverse effects during extended use and clinical research has determined it to be as effective as many commonly prescribed pharmaceuticals. The beneficial effects of curcumin are cumulative, with individuals obtaining observable results within two months, depending upon their level of pain.

Results of a study reported in the Phytotherapy Research journal showed that curcumin was comparable to corticosteroids for relieving inflammation. Corticosteroids are associated with side effects that include increased blood pressure, mood swings and weight gain, along with thinning bones, heightened glucose levels and eye damage. Curcumin demonstrated none of those side effects.

A study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine used curcumin instead of pharmaceuticals to address inflammation and pain. The results indicated that curcumin was safe and demonstrated anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting molecules that are present during the body’s inflammatory response to injury and infection.

Alternative Medicine Review published findings indicating that curcumin contains three distinct types of curcuminoids that target molecules that affect inflammation throughout the body. The trials also demonstrated that curcumin is evacuated quickly from the body and to obtain the full effect, it should be paired with a black pepper extract. BioPerine® is a patented black pepper extract of choice found in high-quality curcumin supplements.

Clinicians advise a curcumin supplement of 750mg each day and caution that a black pepper extract is critical if consumers are to experience the full benefits. Research has proven that curcumin is just as effective as many prescription medications. For those seeking a natural remedy for inflammation, experts suggest that a curcumin supplement is a safe alternative
