Herbal medicine producer swallowed by SFI
A 200-year-old herbal medicine producer in Wigan has been purchased by global natural medicine company Soho Flordis International (SFI).
Potter’s Herbals has been bought by the Australian firm through its Swiss subsidiary Ginsana SA from Vifor Pharma.
The newly acquired business makes a variety of products including treatments for coughs and colds, pain to joint care, gastro-intestinal disorders and women’s health. In addition to the range, the company sells brands such as Red Kooga, Seatone, Calcia and Equazen.
Potter’s Herbal’s products are sold throughout the UK by Boots and Holland & Barrett, as well as a number of other pharmacies, health-food-outlets and retailers.
Founded by entrepreneur Henry Potter in 1812 as a seedsman, herbalist and dealer in leeches, Potter’s Herbals claims to be the oldest herbal medicines manufacturer in the UK.
Nigel Pollard, chief executive of SFI, said: “Potter’s is a strong and iconic brand in the natural medicine sector. Together with its history of over two centuries, Potters will bring to the SFI Group an excellent team and an extensive portfolio of tried and trusted products.
“These products and the business platform in the UK and Europe are an excellent fit for SFI as we seek to build our world-leading position in the field of clinically-proven natural medicine.”
Potter’s Herbals currently has 43 members of staff.
