Green Tea May Help Fight Alzheimer’s Sat 10th August 2013

Researchers at the University of Michigan have found an interesting characteristic of a substance found in green tea: It may stop the formation of amyloid plaques that take place when you start to get Alzheimer’s disease.

The formation of the plaque occurs when proteins in the brain fold the wrong way. The molecule in green tea that may help with this difficulty is called epigallocatechin-3-gallate, also known as EGCG.

“A lot of people are very excited about this molecule,” says researcher Mi Hee Lim of the University of Michigan.

EGCG hyas also been shown to be a very potent antioxidant that may also help you lose weight and lower your risk of cancer.
