Ammi Visnaga: Herbal Help for Diabetes?

More than eight percent of the U.S. population suffers from diabetes, a potentially life-threatening condition that can lead to heart disease and stroke. To help keep diabetes in check, some patients rely on natural remedies, including an herb known as ammi visnaga.

Sourced from a plant in the carrot family, ammi visnaga was found to offer some diabetes-fighting benefits in a preliminary study published in the Journal of Pharmacotherapy. In tests on rats, the study’s authors discovered that ammi visnaga may help reduce blood sugar levels (a key element of diabetes control).

A number of other natural remedies may help regulate blood sugar levels and aid in diabetes defense. For instance, studies show that maintaining optimal levels of vitamin D, drinking black tea regularly, and increasing your intake of cinnamon may help protect against diabetes.
